Members of sealing committees do not know the ground realities and should be sympathetic towards people from the rural areas who come to urban spaces for economic opportunities, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said today.
The housing and urban affairs minister said that the case of these people should be considered sympathetically.
"Sealing committee and many others, who work in air-conditioned offices and do not know the ground realities, don't understand that people from rural areas are coming to urban spaces for economic opportunities," Puri said at an event here.
Stating that by 2030, 600 million Indians would be living in urban spaces, he pitched for redevelopment of cities to accommodate the people.
The sealing drive by the BJP-run municipal corporations in Delhi was initiated in December last year on the direction of the apex court-appointed monitoring panel.
Commercial premises, including shops and restaurants, were sealed for failing to deposit conversion charges according to provisions in the Delhi Master Plan 2021.
