The Union Cabinet, in a meeting on Wednesday, approved the setting up of a National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation (NIMHR) here under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Union minister Thawarchand Gehlot said today.
The project, which will be set up under the Societies Registration Act, is expected to cost Rs Rs 179.54-crore, the minister informed.
The Madhya Pradesh government has allocated 5 acres of land in Bhopal for the purpose and the institute will be established in three years in two phases, he said.
Talking to reporters here today, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment said, "In a meeting on Wednesday, the Union cabinet approved setting up of a National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation in Bhopal. This institute will be set up under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and will function under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities."
