Cold intensified further in Odisha with the mercury plunging to 2.8 degree Celsius in the tourist destination of Daringibadi in Kandhamal district, making it the coldest place in the state Monday.
The Meteorological Centre here warned of harsher days ahead and said severe cold wave condition is likely to prevail at some places in the state during the next two days.
Many places would experience cold wave conditions for next few days.
As intense cold swept across Kandhamal, ground frost occurred in some places like Daringibadi, Balliguda, Raikia, Kotagarh and Tumudibandha in the district.
With the entire state reeling under biting cold, the mercury dipped below 8 degree Celsius in at least 12 places and below 10 degree Celsius in at least 20 locations in the state, the MeT Centre said.
Daringibadi was followed by Phulbani, also in Kandhamal district, where the minimum temperature plummeted to 3 degree Celsius, it said.

The mercury dipped to 4.8 degree Celsius in Koraput, while it was 5.6 degree in Angul, 5.8 degree in Sonepur, 6 degree Celsius in Bhawanipatna, 6.5 degree in Titlagarh, 6.5 degree in Bhawanipatna, 6.6 degree in Keonjhar and 6.8 degree in Jharsuguda, it said.
State capital Bhubaneswar experienced 9.5 degree Celsius, up from 8.2 degree recorded on Sunday. Neighbouring Cuttack city also shivered at 8.8 degree Celsius.
The night temperature is likely to fall below normal by 3 to 4 degree Celsius during the next 3 to days in the state, it said.
