Mercury rises in Punjab, Haryana; humid conditions prevail

High humidity levels, coupled with a rising mercury, troubled the residents of Punjab and Haryana today as rains eluded the region despite overcast conditions throughout the day.
The maximum temperature settled above the normal by few notches at various places in the region, the MeT department said.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius, while Hisar and Karnal in Haryana settled at 38.5 and 34.6 degrees Celsius, up by three and two notches above normal.
Ambala, Bhiwani and Narnaul had a high of 35.3, 38.4 and 35.3 degrees Celsius respectively, the MeT department said.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Amritsar recorded maximum of 34 degrees Celsius each, while Patiala had a high of 35 degrees Celsius, up by two notches.
The Met department, in its forecast, has said light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places in the region during the next 24 hours.
