Intense rain over Kolkata and adjoining districts this afternoon caused waterlogging of roads and low-lying areas in the city and suburbs, as the Met department forecast heavy downpour for south Bengal districts till Tuesday morning.
Important thoroughfares like Central Avenue, College Street and office hub Dalhousie in the heart of the city got waterlogged in over an hour's rain.
There was, however, not much traffic snarl as today being a holiday, there were fewer vehicles on roads.
In the metropolis, Ballygunge in the south recorded 57 mm rainfall from noon to 3 pm while College Street in the north recorded 46 mm rainfall during the same period.
The weatherman has predicted more rain in South Bengal districts till Tuesday morning.
A low pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal in the next two days, the Met department said.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea owing to the possibility of formation of the low pressure area.
