Met predicts severe cold day conditions in Patna

Severe cold day conditions have been predicted in Patna in the next 24 to 48 hours, forcing the district administration to suspend classes up to Class I in all the schools here.
"Patna, the state capital, may expect severe cold day conditions in next 24 to 48 hours due to westerly wind... People will continue to experience shivering weather conditions for next 24 to 48 hours," a Patna Meteorological Centre official said.
Cold day condition is declared when the minimum temperature touches 10 degrees Celsius or lower and the maximum temperature remains at around 5 to 6 degrees Celsius below the normal (maximum temp), he said.
Patna witnessed the coldest day of the season yesterday, with maximum temperature plunging to 14.4 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature recorded at 10.5 degrees Celsius.
Weathermen predicted such foggy and low temperature conditions for another two days in Patna and some other parts of the state due to high level of moisture coming from Cyclone Vardah in the Bay of Bengal.
Bhagalpur is also expected to witness severe cold day conditions tomorrow, while Gaya and Purnea are expected to witness dense fog, a Met department bulletin said.

As per the Met forecast, minimum temperature of Patna, which witnessed a maximum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and minimum of 8.7 degrees Celsius today, is expected to be 9 and 10 degrees Celsius respectively, tomorrow and the day after.
The lowest minimum temperature was recorded 7 degrees Celsius at Sabour (in Bhagalpur district) in the last 24 hours, the report said.
The Patna district administration has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class I till December 15, while the timing for classes has been re-scheduled till Class 8 in all schools in Patna.
"Due to prevalent cold wave and dense fog, we have ordered the suspension of classes from nursery to Std I in all schools till December 15, while the timing for holding classes has been re-scheduled for up to Std VIII in schools of Patna," Patna District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal told PTI.
ECR Chief Public Relations Officer Arvind Kumar Rajak said several trains were cancelled due to the heavy fog cover.
