The meter gauge railway track would be a thing of the past in Tripura with the introduction of 'mega block' by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) from September 20 for track conversion from meter gauge to broad gauge, an official said today.
"All railway services between Badarpur in Assam and Agartala would be withdrawn from 20th of this month as the work for conversion of meter gauge into broad gauge would be started", the official said.
He said the mega block would be enforced in the Badarpur-Kumarghat-Agartala section and the entire work would be completed by March 2016 to connect the capital city with the broad gauge railway map of the country.
Agartala found a place on the railway map in 2008.
Earlier in the first phase, 220-km-long gauge conversion was completed in Lumding-Silchar route and in the second phase 217 km long Badarpur-Agartala section would be converted.
