Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) awarded the highest possible rating, platinum, to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Chief (DMRC) Mangu Singh for having adhered to green building norms today.
While inaugurating the 14-km long section, an extension of Violet Line (line 6), Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Delhi Metro for its "contribution" to the worldwide green movement over concerns of global warming.
The IGBC, part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has devised a rating mechanism for metro stations and buildings on a scale of platinum, gold, silver etc for following green building specifications.
Most importantly, DMRC has installed solar power generation facilities, with a total capacity of 1.9 MWp (megawatt peak), in all the stations on this corridor for "partial fulfillment" of energy requirements.
The power generated will be used for lighting and other auxiliary requirements of the stations and depot buildings. The power Receiving Sub Station (RSS) of the corridor has also been developed as a green building with a 50 kWp solar plant.
Mandi House and Janpath stations of the same line have already received platinum ratings from IGBC earlier.
