Metro Railway earnings at all-time high

Metro Railway, which increased passenger fares for the first time in 13 years, has registered an all-time high in total earnings, at Rs 145.32 crore.
The Kolkata Metro raised the fares in October to offset a part of its huge losses. It registered a 27.95 per cent growth over last fiscal's earning of Rs 113.57 crore, Metro Railway sources said here today.
In terms of passenger earnings, the railway has also earned the highest-ever revenue of Rs 130.42 crore, which is 34.55 per cent higher than that in 2012-2013, when it was Rs 96.93 crore, the sources said.
The Metro Railway has carried 19.53 crore passengers in the financial year 2013-14 against 18.83 crore passengers in 2012-13, which is a growth of 3.69 per cent.
It has also surpassed its record in the field of punctuality, which increased from 99.58 per cent in 2012-13 to 99.66 per cent in 2013-14, the sources added.
