In his plea, Martin Manrique Mansour, a Post Doctoral Fellow of Kalasalingam University, claimed he had evidence to prove that he was present in the University quarters and never moved out on April 10, when police charged him with murdering Cecile Denise Acosta (36).
The deceased had stayed with another person in Virudhunagar and the police did not investigate him. He alleged police had detained him at the station and fabricated documents before implicating him in the case.
Police had arrested Manrique for allegedly murdering Acosta and disposing of the body in a suitcase following a dispute over the issue of custody of their five-year-old child.
Manrique submitted he had no motive to commit the offence, and a Mexican Court had already made arrangements for bringing up the child.
The petitioner alleged he and two of his neighbours were severely tortured by police during interrogation.
Police detained him from April 16 to 18 and circulated stories about him, he alleged. Later he was produced before the Judicial Magistrate and remanded.
