Prosecutors are warning inhabitants of Mexico's southern Pacific coast just west of the resort of Acapulco to take precautions after a tiger escaped and apparently killed five cows.
The prosecutors' office of southern Guerrero state said the tiger escaped from a restaurant in the township of Coyuca de Benitez, where the animal was apparently kept on display.
The office said Wednesday the tiger escaped Monday from the "Mangrove Paradise" restaurant; by yesterday, the tiger still had not been caught.
The owner of a ranch about a mile from the restaurant found five of his cows dead, possibly killed by the tiger.
Local police and environmental officials were searching for the animal with patrols of the rural area.
