MG Varsity to have permanent memoriam for Kalam

Mahatma Gandhi University here today decided to name its upcoming Rs 28.5 crore convergence academia complex after late former President A P J Abdul Kalam, who passed away last week.
The complex will house its interdisciplinary inter University centres, vying for cutting edge scientific explorations, Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian said at a remembrance meeting organised by the Varsity.
MGU has 14 Inter University Centres under its fold.
"The initiative is not only to showcase the love and affection of the academic fraternity of Kerala for Kalam, but also to be a continuous source of inspiration to aspiring students to tread new pathways in their areas of scholastic voyage," he said.
Sebastian said the former President would be remembered nationally for his contributions for creating a new benchmark in international science and technology area, besides his unassuming stint as a 'people's President' and beacon of inspiration. But people in Kerala have had the opportunity for an unparalleled sojourn.
The VC said Kalam was instrumental in launching the dedicated EDUSAT with remote sensing to cover the shadow regions in the country, thereby ensuring the cover of educational programmes. Kerala was quick to respond to his dreams and the first educational channel in India- VICTERS came into being.
The national policy for education and ICT also have Kalam's visionary signature. It is in this context that MG University planned to make a permanent positioning for all encompassing vision and values upheld by Kalam, he said.
