He was 60. He is survived by his wife and a son.
Jhalmi breathed his last at Goa Medical college and hospital near here, where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the sources said.
Three times legislator from St Estevan (now Cumbharjua) and Priol constituencies, Jhalmi was a prominent leader of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party (MGP).
Belonging to the scheduled tribe, Gauda community, Jhalmi got elected for the first time in the year 1984 from Cumbharjua constituency and later was elected twice in the year 1989 and 1994 from Priol constituency.
During his political career, he was Leader of Opposition and twice a minister in the state cabinet.
