MGR lives on in Malaysia election campaigns

Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, may be dead for over two decades now, but a Malaysian admirer is impersonating the legendary Tamil film star to woo ethnic Indians to vote for the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) party in Sunday's general elections.
"I have been a BN supporter since my father's days. BN had done a lot for the nation, this is just a small contribution from me to tell the people how much BN had helped the community," MGR admirer, 63-year-old M G Segar said.
"I have been campaigning for BN since 1999, and the support for BN this time around is overwhelming," he claimed, adding that he would be visiting ethnic Indian majority areas in Kuala Selangor town near here.

Joining him was another MGR impersonator, S Rasoo, 70, who said that MGR had left a huge impact on the lives of many Indians, and hence, impersonating him to spread news about BN would leave a lasting impression of the party too.
On Sunday, Malaysia goes to polls, with the contest between the ruling coalition of Barisan Nasional, which comprises UMNO (the Malay party), Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), and the opposition alliance.
