The Union Home Ministry has alerted the Defence Ministry about an alleged spy ring being run by Pakistan's ISI, which is trying to use ex-servicemen in the garb of providing job opportunities and financial aid.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the Home Ministry has conveyed that a fake organisation of ex-servicemen was formed in North India which promised job opportunities and financial assistance to the former soldiers.
Official sources said the organisation initially helped a few ex-servicemen but gradually showed interest in getting information about various defence installations.
The promoters of the organisation even asked some former soldiers to get in touch with their serving colleagues and try to gather information about field formation, raising suspicion among the ex-servicemen.
The Home Ministry has also asked the Defence Ministry to probe the matter and take suitable action, sources said.
This has come amidst the ongoing probe into a spy ring involving a leading aircraft man with the Indian Air Force posted at Bhatinda.
The dismissed Air Force official, Ranjith KK, was allegedly shared secret information with intelligence operatives suspected to be backed by Pakistan's ISI after being "honeytrapped" into an espionage racket, has been arrested from Bhatinda in Punjab by Delhi Police.
