The Home Ministry today handed over to the NIA the probe into the low intensity blasts in coaches of three trains in Odisha last month.
In a notification, the Home Ministry said the central government has received credible information that a terrorist module is planning attacks in different parts of India.
It is learnt that the said module has visited various places in India to identify possible targets for terror attacks.
"There is further credible information that the said module carried out low intensity combustible blasts in railway coaches in Odisha and other places which resulted in fire in some coaches," the notification said.
The Home Ministry said after exercising the powers conferred under the relevant sections of the National Investigation Agency, the central government suo moto directs the NIA to take up registration and investigation of the aforementioned offences and further conspiracy by the terrorist module.
The low intensity explosion took place in three express trains at Puri railway station in Odisha on November 12 leading to fire and damage to at least four bogies.
The damaged trains were New Delhi-Puri Nandankanan Express, Puri-Tirupati Express and Puri-Howrah Express.
