The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has put on hold the acquisition of land for construction of 135- feet wide 'composite bund' (embankment) along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu, the state government said today.
In a written reply to a question raised by BJP MLA Kuldeep Raj in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said the BSF had placed the indent for the acquisition of land for the construction of the bund.
Mufti said initially it was taken up in three districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua.
However, the process of acquisition of land for the 135- feet embankment was put on hold as per directives of the MHA, on June 9, 2016, the chief minister said.
In cases where final award has been issued and compensation paid, the said land would have to be kept in the "land bank" of the ministry, she said.
The acquisition of land for the 44-feet wide border fencing was ongoing, Mufti added.
Out of Rs 28.39 crore allotted by the Centre as compensation, Rs 4.31 crore had been disbursed to land owners, she said.
