Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested an officer of the Maharashtra government's housing body MHADA while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, an official said.
Sanjay Kashinath Patil, Deputy Community Officer at MHADA, was caught accepting the bribe money in his office in suburban Bandra, said the official from the anti-graft agency.
The 43-year-old had demanded the bribe from a man to allot a flat under a MHADA scheme in his daughter's name. The man's daughter had been allotted the flat through lottery draw. However, after failing to submit required documents, she was disqualified from the scheme, the official said.
He approached Patil, who demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe to get her eligible for the flat once again. The man agreed to pay the amount and at the same time lodged a complaint with the ACB, the official added.
A trap was laid and Patil was caught accepting the bribe money, he said, adding the MHADA officer was later placed under arrest.
