A 40-year-old woman was today shot dead by an unidentified person in Najafgarh area of West Delhi, police said.
The incident took place this morning in Baba Haridas Nagar when the woman, identified as Vidya, was returning to her parents' home here after attending a hearing in court.
Vidya, who was separated from her husband, was shot at by an unidentified person in the head, a senior police officer said, adding that the accused fled from the spot.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead, he said.
Police suspects the involvement of Vidya's brother in the incident as there was some property dispute between them.
"We are suspecting the role of Vidya's brother as she was staying at parents' home for a long time and there was also an ongoing property dispute between them," the officer added.
Police is also scanning CCTV camera footage of the nearby area to identify the accused.
Vidya's relatives are being questioned to get some lead in the case. Her brother is also on the run since the incident, the police officer said.
