'MIFF in Kolkata' to screen award winning films from Aug 22

The Films Division in association with state-run film complex Nandan will host the fourth Kolkata edition of Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films (MIFF) from August 22.

Award-winning documentaries, short films and animations screened at the main MIFF during 2016 and 2018 will be screened in the three-day festival - 'MIFF In Kolkata', a films division press release said here today.

Veteran director Buddhadeb Das Gupta will be the chief guest at the inaugural show of MIFF in Kolkata, 2018.

A total of 17 documentaries, short and animation films - curated from the award winning package of Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2016 and 2018 - will be screened at Nandan III from 2 pm-7 pm every day from August 22-24.

Films from countries like Austria, Finland, South Korea and India will be screened on three days.

'MIFF In Kolkata will showcase some of the finest cinematic works made in the past few years throughout the world, the release said.

The MIFF, which began its journey in 1990 as Bombay International Film Festival (BIFF), has since grown in size and stature as one of the premier international events of documentary film movement.

It is considered on par with prestigious international film festivals like Leipzig, Berlin, Oberhausen, Cracow, and Tampere.
