The quake, with a magnitude of 1.8 on the Richter Scale, was felt late in the night, according to the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) observatory here.
"The tremors were felt near Shamshabad and Rajendra Nagar in south Hyderabad. It was a low intensity quake and there is nothing to worry," NGRI chief scientist R K Chaddha said.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.
People came out of their houses in panic after they felt the tremors.
