Militants arrested by police, Army in Assam

In a major offensive launched by Army in Assam's Kokrajhar district, militant outfits suffered a major setback when six NDFB (Songbijit), one ULFA (Independent) and four Muslim Tiger Force of Assam (MTFA) insurgents were apprehended.
Defence PRO Suneet Newton said that based on inputs, the Army and Police launched a joint operation and apprehended three NDFB(S) Over Ground Workers (OGWs) from Jharbari on March 25 and they were identified as Bodosa Mushahary, Dwinde Basumatary and Dolaharu Narzary.
One country-made pistol, two country-made rifles and one hand grenade were seized from them, the spokesman said.
In the second operation, three NDFB (S) cadres were apprehended near Kachugaon in a joint operation by Army, police and BSF.
The cadres identified as HeitaBoro, Ashok Basumatary and Ranjoy Boro were actively involved in extortion and were working as linkmen providing food and rations to NDFB (S) cadre hiding in Ripu Reserve Forest, he said.
In a similar joint operation by Army and Police, an (I) ulta identified as Raman Rabhawho was apprehended from Gaksha village of Kashiabari area in Gossaigaon district.
He had undergone training in 2012 at Dhurama Hills in Meghalya along with the fourth batch of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadre, the defense spokesman said.
In another joint operation Army and police apprehended four Muslim Tiger Force of Assam (MTFA) militants near village Kharkhari in Kokrajhar district, he said.
