The militants lobbed the explosive at the house of one Mutum Kameshor (35) who is contesting the forthcoming panchayat elections in September next from Basikhong area in Imphal East district last evening apparently to prevent Kameshor from contesting the elections, sources said.
The grenade failed to explode.
Kameshor and his family members were present at the time of the incident.
Sources said the militants had earlier thrown grenades at the houses of some candidates of the panchayat elections but it failed to explode.
In another incident, militants hurled a powerful grenade at a grocery shop at Moirang area in Bishenpur district yesterday, sources said adding that too failed to explode.
Monetary demand made from the owner of the shop identified as L Sarat (42) could be the reason behind the incident, sources said.
