Military Engineer Services official sentenced to 7 years in

A CBI court today sentenced an official of the Military Engineer Services to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case registered against him in 2002.
Third Additional Special Judge for CBI cases B V L N Chakravarthi, convicted Anil Kumar Kohli, the then Garrison Engineer, MES in Secunderabad, and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven years for the offence under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, a CBI official said.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15 lakh on him and in default of payment of penalty, ordered simple imprisonment for one year.
The court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 21 months for the offence under section 201 of IPC (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) and to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh and in default of payment of fine amount, simple imprisonment for six months.
The sentences will run concurrently.
The case was registered on March 20, 2002, on the allegation that Kohli was in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 62,05,932.
