Appreciating the role played by them in various domains of the society, UP Jail Minister Rajendra Chaudhary today appealed to the lawyer fraternity to work for speedy disposal of pending court cases.
Chaudhary was the chief guest at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-constituted bar association here.
"Around 3 crore cases are pending at different courts of the country, out of which nearly 26 lakh are lingering for past five years," Chaudhary said.
He said there should be sincere efforts to dispose of the cases to ensure timely justice for the needy.
He also underscored an urgent need for expansion of jail infrastructure in the state, noting the availability of space for 90,000 prisoners is half of what is required to accomodate them.
The minister said government is making all efforts to find a solution to the crisis.
