Minister rues lack of central assistance

The state will get only Rs 119 crores out of Rs 1000 special financial assistance being provided by the Centre towards agriculture development in the eastern states in 2012-13, he told a workshop here.

Pitching for more central assitance to boost agriculture sector in Bihar, Singh said that it will benefit the country if the farm output increased in the state.

The state required electricity for irrigation and coal linkages for proposed thermal power plants, he said the growth of the farm sector was closely linked with infrastructure development, including power.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Secretary (Agriculture) Mukesh Khullar asked the state agriculture department to submit utilization certificate of the central funds and promised additional funds for development of agriculture sector in Bihar.

The minister later flagged off Kharif raths that will visit various parts of the state and apprise the farmers about modern farm techniques, schemes for financial assistance and farm supplements, official sources said.
