Ministerial panel to study Kelkar Committee recommendations

Maharashtra government has set up a high powered ministerial panel headed by Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to study recommendations of the Vijay Kelkar Committee on methods to eradicate development backlog and ensure equitable distribution of funds.
According to the Government Resolution (GR) issued here yesterday, the panel will study recommendations of the Kelkar Committee and observations of the departments' concerned about it before submitting its report to government.
The cabinet sub-committee will include water resources minister Girish Mahajan, power minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, education minister Vinod Tawde, industries minister Subhash Desai and public health minister Deepak Sawant.
Kelkar committee was set up on May 31, 2011 to study the prevailing situation in Marathwada, Vidarbha and North Maharashtra, meet the stakeholders and suggest methods to end the development backlog and ensure equitable distribution of development funds.
The Committee report was tabled in Nagpur session of the Legislature.
