The incident took place late last night at Kaliahata village of the district, when the accused Bamia Munda (16) allegedly attacked the four persons with an axe in their deep sleep, police said.
While the brick kiln owner, Dukhabandhu Palei (70), Srikanta Moharana (14) and Ratnakar Munda (45) died on the spot, Buddhu Munda was admitted at the Telkoi hospital for treatment in a critical condition, they said.
Though the exact reason behind the ghastly crime was not immediately known, previous enmity was stated to be the cause of the murders, they said.
After committing the crime, Bamia fled from the scene, police said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
