A minor has been detained for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in Kashimira area of Maharashtra's Thane district, police said today.
The incident took place on Sunday, they said, adding that the accused was detained the next day and produced in a court in Thane which sent him to a remand home.
The 13-year-old boy, a Class 7 student of a local school, is a neighbour of the victim and had called the child to his home and allegedly raped her there, Kashmiria police station Inspector Vaibhav Shingare said.
"The victim's mother had gone out for some work and the child's grandmother allowed her to go to the accused's place as the families knew each other," the official said.
When the victim's mother reached the accused's house looking for her, she found the child crying, he said.
"The girl narrated the ordeal to her mother who then filed a police complaint. We have detained the boy and further investigations into the case are underway," he said.
