Minor girl escapes kidnap attempt in MP

A 12-year-old girl managed to escape when five unknown persons tried to kidnap her in the city outskirts here while she was walking down to school, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday in Nishatpura area when the sixth grade girl, a resident of Lambakheda village, was forcibly pulled inside a van while she was walking alone to school, they said.
However, the girl managed to escape from their clutches as the vehicle broke down near her school and the abductors were busy repairing it, police said.
After freeing herself, she reached school and narrated the incident to her classmates and later to her parents, police said.
They said the victim told the villagers that the van was attached to Progressive International School following which they reached there.
As soon as the girl identified the vehicle, irate villagers set it afire and also damaged some other vans parked nearby, police said.
Later, police reached the spot and pacified the villagers assuring action would be taken against the guilty, they said.
Superintendent of Police (North), Arvind Saxena said a case of kidnapping and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered against five unidentified persons in this regard and efforts were on to nab them.
