Minor girl thrown to ground by father; dies

A minor girl was allegedly thrown to ground by her father at their residence in Virar, following which she died of the district, police said today.
30-year-old accused Tushar Sangvi lived with his wife and daughter in Kargil Nagar area. He used to frequently quarrel with his wife over minor issues, Assistant Police Inspector of Virar police station Arvind Kamble said.
Recently, his wife went to her maternal house and did not return for a long time. She returned last evening. The accused questioned her for long absence and started abusing, he said.
In a fit of rage, he snatched his daughter Hasti from his hand and banged her on the floor. The child sustained injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, the official said.

She was later shifted to Nair hospital in Mumbai where she died in the wee hours, police said.
Earlier, a case under was registered under section 307 (attempt to murder). However, now a case under section 302 (murder) has been registered, they said, adding investigations are underway.
