Police believe that the boy was involved in a one-sided love affair with the girl. Both the minors hailed from Bihar, police said.
The accused, aged around 16 years, attacked the girl (15), who was junior to him by one Class, with a sharp scythe (farm tool) and slit more than half of her throat causing death on the spot, police said.
The incident occurred about 45 km from here at Khanna town when the girl was returning home after school this afternoon.
The accused teenager succeeded escaping from the scene after committing the crime, they said.
However, he rushed towards the nearby railway line, which was close to the crime spot. The boy stood on the rail track in front of a fast approaching train from the Delhi side. He was crushed to death within minutes, police said.
Preliminary investigations by the Khanna police revealed that it was a case of one sided love affair.
Both the boy and the girl were neighbors, studying in the same school and originally belonged to Bihar, said DIG Ludhiana Range, G S Dhillon.
