Minor, mother killed in road accident in UP's Jaunpur

Riding on a motorcycle, a young woman and her three-year-old child were killed and her husband injured after they were hit by a fleeing truck in Chandwak area of the district today, police said.
The incident occurred this morning when a truck was asked to stop for a routine check by the Additional Road Tax officer (ARTO). But the truck driver instead of stopping tried to flee and in the attempt knocked down the bike running close by, killing Anita, 25, and her minor son Dhruv on the spot, police said.
Anita's husband Avinash, 30, was injured in the incident and rushed to a hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, locals jammed the road in protest against the incident demanding inquiry against the ARTO and cornered Sub Divisional Magistrate Sushil Kumar Dubey for some time.
Dubey had reached the spot to take stock of the situation when the localites cornered him for nearly 15-20 minutes and demanded action in the case, police said.
Senior officers later controlled the situation, they said, adding that the truck has been seized and the accused driver arrested.
