In a shocking example of medical apathy, a deranged minor rape victim was allegedly not provided a stretcher at a government hospital where she was brought by her family members.
She was profusely bleeding and had to be physically lifted and carried to the emergency ward as the hospital did not extend to her stretcher facilities despite repeated pleas, her family members claimed.
A photograph of the girl being literally carted by policemen and family members has gone viral on the social media.
When contacted, Dr Neera Verma, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, barely 100 km from state capital Lucknow, said the victim's family members themselves brought her to the ward and there was no scope for providing stretcher to her.
"There was no prior information about the victim being brought to the hospital, so question of not providing the facility did not arise," she said.
She said police should have informed the hospital authorities before hand to get the facility.
Police said the mentally challenged girl was raped in a field yesterday and the accused fled after committing the crime, leaving the girl bleeding profusely.
