The percentage of minorities in Central Government jobs almost doubled from 5.3 per cent in 2014 to 9.9 per cent at present, Government said today.
"In Central Government jobs the proportion of minorities was 5.3 per cent in 2014. Today the percentage of minorities in Central Government jobs is 9.9 per cent. This is not because of us.
"We do not agree that they (minorities) did not have the capability. They should have got this right earlier, there must have been differential treatment. We created an environment to end the differential treatment. The percentage has increased due to the minorities' progress and self belief," Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in the Rajya Sabha.
Referring to the talk of intolerance and awards being returned, he said "despite all such things, the Minorities Commission in its report has observed that communal incidents have declined more than 200 per cent during this period and there was no big communal incident witnessed in the country".
The Minister further said at a time when the Islamic State and terrorist forces were "engulfing the world, we take pride in saying that due to my country's culture of tolerance, terror organisations like ISIS could not gain ground in India and wherever they attempted, Muslims were at the forefront in opposing and destroying them".
