Moderate Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today appealed to the civil society to ensure the "much-needed flow" of aid to the flood-ravaged state of Jammu and Kashmir even as he charged that the government machinery had failed to deal with the crisis.
"For the sake of humanity, the civil society should play an active role in removing any obstacles for the much-needed flow of international aid to Kashmir," Mirwaiz told a civil society delegation from Delhi which called on him at his residence here.
The delegation included journalist and Director, Centre for Policy Analysis, Seema Mustafa, President of Press Club of India, Dr Anand Sahai, noted journalist Bula Devi and Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Mirwaiz apprised the delegates of the situation in Kashmir arising out of the devastating floods and claimed that the government apparatus had completely failed in dealing with the crisis.
