Hurriyat Conference's moderate faction today expressed concern over the proposed Police Reforms Bill, saying such a legislation would put Jammu and Kashmir into "lawlessness".
"The proposal to get Police Reforms Bill 2013 passed in Assembly is nothing but a move to put the state into lawlessness and at the mercy of Ikhwan-type force (government sponsored gunmen)... And would turn the life of the people of Kashmir, who are already suffering under the acts like AFSPA, DAA and PSA, more miserable," Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, who is under house arrest here, said in a statement.
Mirwaiz said that on one hand the government is singing tunes of revocation of AFSPA, but on the other it is turning Jammu and Kashmir into a police state.
"Rather than making the people, who are involved in killing Kashmiris, accountable, the government wants to give extraordinary powers to them," he alleged.
He said Hurriyat and the people of Kashmir would oppose any such bill and, if need arises, would launch an agitation against it.
