Misbah was not in the Pakistan squad which played two Twenty20 Internationals against Sri Lanka last month, which resulted in Mohammad Hafeez leading the side.
Also recalled to the preliminary squad for the mega event to be held in Sri Lanka from September 18 were seasoned all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and dashing opener Imran Nazir.
A PCB official said that the final squad would be announced next month.
"Kamran has been included in the side as he is a experienced performer specially in T20 and one-day cricket," chief selector Iqbal Qasim said.
Indications are also that 30-year-old Kamran, who last played for Pakistan in the 2011 World Cup, will also be selected for the forthcoming ODI and T20 series against Australia in the UAE from August 28.
"It is a great feeling to be considered for national duty once again. The last one and half years when I have not been considered for selection have been tough on me as cricket is my life," Kamran told PTI.
Kamran who has played 53 tests, 137 ODIs and 38 T20 International matches was not considered for selection after his name cropped up during the the spot-fixing trial in England last year when a crown court jailed Salman Butt, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir. MORE
