A miscreant wanted in over a dozen of cases was injured in a gunfight with police in Odisha's Kendrapara district early on Saturday.
Seikh Nadeem (32) opened fire when a police patrol squad tried to intercept him near Arjunpur village. In retaliation, police fired back and Nadeem was injured in the gunbattle that followed, a police official said.
A scooter, one country-made pistol and two live cartridges were seized from his possession.
Nadeem, who was running an inter-district gang, was wanted in over a dozen of criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, illegal arms possession, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Ranjan Kumar Dey.
Nadeem was admitted to Kendrapara district headquarters hospital, the SDPO added.
