Missing babies:HC directs TN Home Secretary,DGP to file report

The Madras High Court Bench here has directed the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary and the DGP, to file a detailed report on cases missing babies from hospital.
The court was hearing a petition filed by one T.Meenakshi, whose child was stolen by a woman from the maternity ward at the Government Rajaji Hospital here.
A Division Bench of Justice Rajeswaran and Justice Mathivanan also directed the two officials to give a report on the steps taken by the state government to prevent such incidents in future.
The Judges said so far eight cases of child missing had been filed in the last two years and asked the Dean of the Government Rajaji Hospital to give a report about the action taken on his part for security of the maternity ward in view of the interest of the public at large.
Meenakshi, whose baby boy was stolen on June15,had filed a habeas corpus plea as, according to her, police had taken no action on her complaint.
In his counter,the Inspector of the Government Rajaji hospital, Seetharaman, who is investigating the case, said eight child missing cases had been filed in the last two years,and of them three had been traced and the accused had been arrested.
Two special teams had been formed to trace the child, he said and sought time.
