A golden pendant and chain that went missing from the Sri Krishna temple in Alappuzha district were recovered today from the temple hundi when it was opened for counting the offerings.
Travancore Devaswom Board President Prayar Gopalakrishnan said the ornaments were found inside the hundi, which is opened once a month for counting the offerings.
The Krishna temple at Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha district is also famous for the shrine's main offering, the 'Palpayasam, a delicious dessert made with 'chemba' rice and milk. It is popularily known as 'Ambalapuzha Palpayasam'.
The ancient 'pathakkam', a Navaratna-studded pendant, and chain, were part of sacred ornaments used to decorate the presiding deity on auspicious occasions. It was found missing last month.
It is believed that the pendant was offered to the deity by Chempakasseri Rajas of Central Travancore some 450 years ago.
