Two trekkers, who went missing after falling into a crevice at the Pahalgam hill resort in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, have died, officials said Saturday.
A group of trekkers had gone to trek the Kolahai glacier at Pahalgam in the south Kashmir district and on their way back, two of them fell into the crevice after rock-fall, they said.
The officials said the two trekkers - a junior scale Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) officer Naveed Jeelani and Adil Shah of the Alpine group - had gone missing after the incident.
They were declared dead Saturday, while a third trekker, identified as Hazik, who was injured, was shifted to a hospital here for treatment, they said.
An operation to retrieve the dead bodies was launched Saturday morning, but had to be halted due to bad weather, the officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief over the demise of the trekkers, an official spokesman said.
