Mission Indradhanush shows encouraging results: Hr govt

Mission Indradhanush', a programme launched to immunise children and pregnant women against certain fatal, but preventable diseases has shown encouraging results, the Haryana government claimed today.
In a press release, the state government claimed that the immunisation coverage in some districts had risen phenomenally, for instance from 24 percent to 92 percent in Gurgaon.
In the press release, Principal Secretary, Health, Amit Jha said these diseases included Tuberculosis, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis-B, Pneumonia and Meningitis due to Haemophilus Influenzae type b (Hib), Measles, Rubella, Japanese Encephalitis and Rotavirus (diarrhoea).
The Mission Indradhanush was launched by the Union Health ministry on December 25, 2014 to increase the coverage of immunisation of children and pregnant women residing in vulnerable areas in the country.
According to the statement, in some of the state's districts, the immunisation rate was very low.
It was 13 per cent in Mewat, 24 per cent in Gurugram, 25 per cent in Palwal and 64 per cent in Rohtak. However, as per the National Family Health Survey-4 the state's average is 62.2 per cent.

Mission Director, National Health Mission, Haryana, Amneet P Kumar said with the implementation of Mission Indradhanush, the immunisation coverage had increased.
In Mewat, the immunisation coverage has increased from 13 per cent to 21 per cent, in Gurugram from 24 to 92 per cent, in district Palwal it also increased from 25 per cent to 38 per cent and in Rohtak it also improved from 64 per cent to 72 per cent, the statement said.
She said that although the overall coverage of immunisation under Mission Indradhanush was satisfactory in the state, it had shown marked improvement in Mewat and Palwal districts, where its implementation was hindered by some rumours about four months ago.
