Stating this today, Urban Development secretary Sudhir Krishna asserted that integration of land use and transportation is important and can prove a game changer for big cities.
Speaking at the second annual meet of Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) in New Delhi, the official noted that an efficient and intelligent urban transport system cannot be developed unless all the stake holders pull their resources together.
He said that the Urban Development ministry had initiated the Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) with the support of Global Environment Facility (GEF), the World Bank and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to foster a long-term partnership.
Officials of the ministry said that the SUTP is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the central government, states and cities in planning, financing, implementing, operating and managing sustainable urban transport systems.
It is also direted at assisting them in preparing and implementing certain Green Transport projects towards reduction of green house gases in the urban environment.
