The MLA, who is also a candidate for the April 17 elections, was quick to rebut the allegations.
Sweekriti Das, wife of arrested corporator Chittaranjan Das alleged that the the local legislator was putting pressure on her husband to join the BJD. Chittaranjan had won the February six civic body elections as an Independent corporator.
"When my husband refused to join his party, the MLA has acted in an unkind manner by putting police behind him," Sweekriti alleged.
"The crime branch police must have got some prima facie evidence for which the corporator was arrested. I don't have any role in it," the MLA said. The fugitive corporator was arrested in New Delhi earlier this week and was brought here on transit remand.
Meanwhile, the crime branch sleuths on the day raided Chittaranjan's house and seized several incriminating documents, including laptop and pen drive. Sources said the police would move the appropriate court to take the accused in remand for further questioning.
