MMRC receives six pre-qualification bids for rolling stock

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) today said it has received six bids from domestic and international companies for supplying metro rakes for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor.
MMRC has received bid from three consortia, including Alstom Transport India and Alstom Transport S.A France, CRRC Nanjing, CRRC Changchun and CRRC International Corporation (China) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries (Japan) and BHEL.
It has received three independent bids from Spain-based CAF SA, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Corporation, MMRC said in a statement issued here.
The pre-qualification bids were invited following procurement guidelines of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is funding 57 per cent of the project cost, it said.
"To cater to heavy passenger loads, the rolling stock will be procured which will also be equipped with the features of driver-less train operations," MMRC Director (Projects) and Acting Managing Director SK Gupta said.
The contract will include design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of metro trains. MMRC will be procuring 31 eight-coach trains for standard gauge system.
The train cars will be 22.6 metres long and 3.2 metres wide with four doors per train.
