Ahead of the monsoon, which is expected to arrive in the city by June 10, MMRDA today said it has set up a 24x7 control room to minimise inconvenience to the vehicular and pedestrian traffic at its project sites.
"The control room has been set up with a view to minimise inconvenience to the vehicular and pedestrian traffic at various project sites being implemented by the Authority. The control room officials will also ensure smooth flow of rain water at various project sites," the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said in a release here.
The control room will be monitored by four MMRDA nodal officers and managed by 41 officials in three shifts, it said.
"People will be able to seek help from the control room on various aspects such as uprooting of trees, water logging, accidents, traffic snarls, potholes, among others," MMRDA Joint Project Director (PR) Dilip Kawathkar said.
He said the control room will work in tandem with railways, BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, traffic police, BEST, fire brigade and other agencies.
"The service will be available on Helpline numbers 26591241, 26594176 and 8080705051," he said.
Meanwhile, MMRDA has also asked project contractors to strictly adhere to safety measures.
"They are also instructed to stringently follow norms as far as barricading, reinstatement of the damaged road works, clearing and disposal of the muck on the roads is concerned," Kawathkar added.
