The decision came days after the Union Cabinet cleared the proposal to hand over a part of the defunct Indu Mills land in the city to the Maharashtra government for the memorial.
As many as 13 consultants had expressed interest, out of which ten were shortlisted, the MMRDA said in a statement.
They include Muralage, Somaya & Kalappa Consultants, Jakob +MacFarlane, VSPB Associates, Locus, Jain & Associates, Shashi Prabhu & Associates, UDP International, consortium of GMP International and Astute Engineering Services, besides the New York-based Asymptote Architecture in partnership with Skyline architects.
The development comes after the cabinet passed a bill for the purpose on Monday, nearly a year after the government had announced its move to give a portion of the Indu Mills land to the state government to set up the memorial.
The Centre has decided to hand over 4.84 hectares of Indu Mills land in Dadar West belonging to the National Textile Corporation Ltd (NTCL) to the Maharashtra government.
According to the cabinet note, NTCL will be paid Rs 45.77 crore for over 48,000 square metres of Indu Mills land, which would be acquired for the purpose.
