Maharashtra Navnirman Sena general secretary Shalini Thackeray today asked Health Minister Deepak Sawant to install vending machines containing sanitary napkins in state-run hospitals and proposed that they should be made available to girls at the cheapest price.
"Recently, the Gujarat Government made a major announcement of making sanitary napkins available to all girls at the cheapest rate. Under Gujarat government scheme, they have decided to sell a packet of six sanitary napkins at just Rs 1. This is a revolutionary step in the sector of menstrual hygiene management," she said.
Thackeray said her party recommends that state government too should follow the same path and help girls from the poor strata of society.
"Bringing down the cost of sanitary napkins will ensure reduction in the dropout rate of school-going girls, especially in the rural parts of Maharashtra," she added.
