After Congress sacked two of its leaders including the city-unit president for anti-party activities during the election of co-opted members of Thane Municipal Corporation, the MNS today followed the suit and expelled three members.
One of them is chairman of the standing committee Sudha Chavan, who is due to quit the office today.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray had reportedly cleared the name of corporator Shailesh Patil for the membership of standing committee, but the local leaders sprang a surprise at the last minute by pushing through the candidature of Rajashri Naik.
This annoyed the party leadership, sources said.
State secretary of MNS Shirish Sawant today announced, within hours of election, that Thackeray had expelled the corporators Sudha Chavan, Tejaswini Chavan and Rajashri Naik from the party.
A total of eight members were today elected/nominated to the standing committee: Madhukar Pawshe, Ekta Bhoir, Balaji Kakade and Anita Birje (all Shiv sena), Yougesh Jankar and Najib Mulla (NCP), Manoj Shinde (Congress) and Rajashri Naik (MNS).
